Soyfed Beef - 64400grams reflects on hetero-capitalist capture of the queer body that colonises the homosexual man into palatable and marketable formats. In our cultural imagination, hegemonic images or signs of the muscular body become more dominant than real homosexual physicalities and lived experiences — leading to obsessions over its reproduction.

In that way, the butcher shop motif of the meat hook serves to suspend only an image of a muscular body rather than any sculptural form, speaking to its market abstraction. Though appearing in taxonomical formats, the images themselves do not give away their contextualisation within the butcher shop. The work therefore works at proposing expanded views of what could visually register as the dehumanisation and objectification of marginalised bodies.
