Trypophobia I

2017
White stoneware

This first IB work kickstarts my exploration of the beautifully grotesque. Hands are used as the viewer would empathise more with them. The textured holes employ the viewer's tactile senses and are reminders of parasitism, eliciting a sense of pathogen avoidance, making the viewer feel like there are holes in his skin as well, like insects are drilling into his skin.

Despite this, the viewer will implicitly sense beauty in the intiricacy and harmony of the ornate, pattern-like marks on the clay.

Exhibited for Visual Arts Graduation Showcase (2018) over at SOTA Gallery, Singapore.
