Charybdis, The Man Eater
2018
Sewn stuffed fabric, acrylic paint, synthetic fiber, bamboo, foam

This work depicts a predator attracting its prey with invitingly positioned tentacles, as well as visually and texturely provocative patterns. The ornately intricate stipples draw viewers in for inspection and mesmerise them.
However, Siew's use of red; as well as the positioning of phallic objects in labial arrangements materialise a sexual aggression and a queer subversion of biology, achieving the unsettling and dreadful feelings made responsible by the sculpture's predatory nature.
